The quasi official mascot of Derby Lite is a pin-up vixen named Viva Underpants (created by our very own Valerie of the Dolls). Underthings are a frequent topic of conversation among d'liters so the name is quite fitting. One of the luckiest happenstances of Derby Lite is that one of our skaters, the talented Baubolicious or Baubo owns a lingerie store. A real, honest to goodness, independent retail establishment filled with undies from everyday bras that fit well, to jammies, to the undies you love to love.... One of our other skaters, the inimitable Payne D. Spencer is gifted in the art of selecting underthings that fit, flatter and which are generally fab. Payne and Baubo are my lingerie goddesses. My undy drawer has been prettified since I started skating and met them both.
I walked into Baubos yesterday (where Payne was helping out because Baubo took a much deserved vacay with her hubby), and I saw an entire rack displayed with brown and pink. The Derby Lite colors! I of course, tried several things on, including an adorable brown cami with pink lace that I figure I can wear as a camisole or as skatewear (see fuzzy photo above).......Payne had also been cruising the racks for things she thought I'd like (and she found a few, no photos thank you very much!). What a better way to stock up on undies, than supporting Payne's habit vicariously, and a much beloved local business?
I have decided that my mid-40s (yup, I'm so there) are a good time to shake things up, including my rather pragmatic underwear wardrobe. (Someday maybe I'll tell you about some of the others). Lucky for me I have help. From Derby Lite, no less. Help often comes from unlikely places in life. Roller Derby to underwear, who knew?
Viva Underpants!
