And Around and Around I Go!

I have a wry sense of humor, or so I've been told. When people ask me what I do, instead of getting a beatific smile on my face and saying I stay home with my kids, I tell them that I drive in one mile concentric circles. When the kids are in camp or school, obviously I do other things, but a big part of being with kids after school or camp, means schlepping them. Today, I picked up G. at theater camp at 3, dropped her off at a play date at 3:15, picked up A. from an art class at 3:30, dropped her off at the play date at 3:45, and then picked them both up 1 hour later. Crazy. It's how many afternoons go. Not close enough to walk or bike, not far enough to feel like you've gone anywhere. Between the drop offs and pick ups, I did get to stop by a new wine/cheese/cafe. Really nice (sophisticated and cool), so that'll be someplace I'll go back to.....when I can stop the car for more than 15 minutes.

Going around, clearly has a likeness in skating. We go around and around while we skate. But the more interesting idea to me, is that if we always skate in the traditional skating direction (counter clockwise) muscles get unevenly developed. My legs and ankles are unbalanced. So the key is to also skate clockwise, and then you feel like Frankenstein clunking along. The same is true off the track. Sometimes it's just better to do the opposite. Like not drive in circles, like take a day off, like find a stinkin' carpool when you can! Even if you have to clunk along to get through it. Your body and your mind will thank you for it.
