Life is a Giant Roller Skate

This is the last week of summer break: school starts next week for my soon to be 1st and 3rd graders. The last week before school is crazy, and I feel like I am, indeed, riding the giant roller skate of life. All of the fall commitments I made months ago are now real things to fit into our schedule. Actually I am handling this period better than I used to. I somehow trust that I will be able to manage the activities, the schoolwork, the volunteering, etc. Some things I've learned:

- people understand that you cannot be in two places at once.
- I can ask for help. Carpools are a mom's best friend.
- being 5 minutes late does NOT throw the world off of it's axis.
- obsessing about schedules in advance does NOT really help. (re-read my first three points)
- it's ok if the school haircut and new backpack come after the first day of school.
- it's still summer so new fall school clothes really can wait a few more weeks.
- it will be O.K.!

So as I get older I learn to breathe and then breathe some more. So hop on the giant roller skate and go. Wheeeeeeeee!
