A weekend of roller derby in Madison, WI. What fun! The Windy City Rollers went all the way to the regional championship and came in second (they lost to NY, the Gotham Girls Roller Derby). Man there was good skating, fun crowds, and hard hard hits (no, not in the crowd, on the track). I saw a lot of derby and the Windy City Rollers are really one of THE strongest teams in the country. Unfortunately Gotham's blockers got to them, and they committed too many penalties (if your jammer -- the skater who scores -- is always in the penalty box it's hard to get ahead.
In addition, I got to hang out in Madison. I think drinking a good beer on a patio on a 70 degree day with nowhere to hurry up to, and nary a child in sight might be the ultimate in relaxation. Amazing. All parents should get away occasionally and chill. That means YOU!
But now I'm back (driving back after the championship last night) having a "girls day" at home today, which means a movie, cheesecake and painting nails. Not quite as relaxing, but certainly a fun way to spend the day with my girls! It's all about the balance.
